Taking Prophecy Seriously
Dr. Alexander Kurian
Did you know that 27 percent of the Bible is prophecy? Altogether there are more than 1,000 prophecies in the Bible. Eschatological speculation and sensationalizing of prophecy is prevalent among many Christians. Some prophecy preachers want to make prophecies say more than it really says. But that should not discourage, distract or deter us from studying the precious truths of Bible prophecy. We must be clear about what is fact, what is assumption, and what is speculation. Proper study of prophecy in relation to God's plan for the ages, the imminent return of Christ, future of a godless world, characteristics of the last days, how to live in the present in the light of the future, are all essentials for our preparedness and readiness in these last days. Avoiding the study of prophecy means avoiding more than 25 percent of the Bible. "The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy" (Rev.19:10).
